This talk will focus on my experience as a trainee in the field of anesthesiology in the USA and the lessons I learned along the way. I will describe the typical practice of a cardiac anesthesiologist at a large academic hospital in a major city, and discuss areas of innovation in the field that have to potential to revolutionize the field in the coming years.
