Effective labor analgesia enhances maternal comfort and reduces physiological stress during childbirth, making it a key focus in clinical anesthetic care. A major issue faced by parturients globally is the loss of autonomy due to surrogate decision-making by family members. In the context of severe labor pain, many women are unable to engage in informed discussions with healthcare providers, leading to critical decisions being made on their behalf, often without full understanding or consent. To address this, we implemented a digital and personalized solution aimed at resolving communication barriers and enhancing patient autonomy.
A hospital-wide platform was established to centralize educational content. Each pregnant woman receives a personalized QR code linking to her dedicated portal, where she can access tailored information and record her preferences at any time. Healthcare teams are granted access to these records directly via the hospital’s electronic order system, enabling real-time review of patient choices and concerns. This platform replaces traditional paper documentation, offering a fully digital, patientcentered approach. It is integrated with the emergency system, ensuring that the anesthesiology team receives patient preferences and questions upon admission, thus supporting a seamless workflow from education to consultation and analgesia delivery.
We conducted pre- and postimplementation surveys to evaluate maternal knowledge and satisfaction, with findings published in journal. Surveys among clinical staff also revealed significant improvements in satisfaction, with subgroup analysis by role and experience. This initiative has been recognized with national pain certification and awards, highlighting its impact on patient empowerment and sustainable clinical integration.
